Special Events

There are two special events at the conference hosted by our sponsors Boeing and Lockheed Martin. On Tuesday evening, June 27, we have a special IMAX showing of the movie "Roving Mars." On Wednesday evening, June 28, the workshop banquet will be held at the Caltech Atheneaum.

Roving Mars:
Experience the reality of the Mars surface as seen through the eyes of two intrepid death defying explorers - Spirit and Opportunity in the spectacular new giant screen adventure Roving Mars, which is shown exclusively at IMAX theaters. By special arrangements with the Disney corporation, the California Science Center and hosted by our IPPW-4 sponsor Lockheed Martin, IPPW-4 workshop attendees, their family and guests will have a unique opportunity to see this movie. The special showing will be at the California Center's IMAX movie house at 7:30 pm on the evening of the first day of the workshop, Tuesday June 27.

Please check in with registration to let them know who and how many in your party would like to attend this free event. The California Science Center is about 10 miles from the location of the conference event. We have not arranged for special transportation to the event and so when you check in please indicate if you will need transportation and we will make carpooling arrangements. Also indicate if you have a car and are willing to transport others.

The California Science Center is located immediately south of downtown Los Angeles. Since the rush hour in Southern California is quite extended you should allow yourself about 45 min to drive down to the location (please note there is a $6.00 parking fee).

Directions:
South on the Harbor Freeway (110)
Exit Exposition Boulevard
Make a soft left at bottom of ramp to Flower Street
Turn left on Figueroa Street
Enter Exposition Park 1/2 block on the right (39th Street/Coliseum Drive)
Follow guest parking signs to the parking structure

The Caltech Athenaeum held its first formal dinner in 1931, when Albert Einstein arrived for a two month stay at Caltech. Paintings of Caltech Nobel Laureates line the walls of this prestigious private club.

Now this very special private club will be opening its doors for an elegant and fun evening for the IPPW-4 conference attendees.

Hosted by our IPPW-4 sponsor Boeing, the menu includes prime rib, seafood, a "California Elegance" station, two cash bars and a World Champion Magician, Johnny Ace Palmer to provide strolling, walk-around magic from 7:30 - 9:30 for your entertainment.

This event will be held on Wednesday, June 28, 2006 starting at 7:30PM. A bus will be provided to take guests from the Hilton to the Athenaeum.

For those workshop attendees wishing to bring their family or guests, please check in with the registration booth at the conference. Registered attendees are free. There is a charge of $30.00 for guests.
